End-to-End Solutions: How ISL Delivered 88,000kg from India to Trinidad

The Challenge

When a leading petrochemical producer needed to move critical oversized equipment from Dahej, India to its facility in Point Lisas, Trinidad, the logistics demands were significant.

The size and weight required specialized trailers and permits. This coupled with the limited road infrastructure complicated the transit from supplier in Dahej to Mundra port.

The largest single item weighed 88,000kg. The cargo was operationally critical. Delays were not an option and damage was unthinkable. Getting it from a supplier’s facility in Dahej to a working industrial estate in Point Lisas required a seamless chain of inland transport, sea freight, port operations, customs clearance and final delivery, coordinated precisely across two continents.

The Scope

ISL took full ownership of the move from door to door. The scope included:

  • Inland freight from the supplier’s facility in Dahej to Mundra Port, a journey of 30 days
  • A part-charter of a vessel from Mundra Port to Point Lisas, Trinidad
  •  Full discharge operations at Point Lisas, including crane lifting of the cargo from vessel to shore.
  • Customs brokerage and clearance in Trinidad
  • Final delivery to the customer’s facility in Point Lisas Industrial Estate

The Execution

Getting the cargo to port was itself a decision that required experience. The obvious choice for a shipment originating near Dahej was Mumbai, the closest major port on India’s west coast.

But Mumbai’s congestion levels, particularly for oversized and overweight cargo, carry a real risk of vessel waiting time and port storage charges that can quickly inflate the cost of a project move. ISL’s network of business partners in India flagged this early. The decision was made to route inland to Mundra instead, a port close enough to be practical but significantly less congested. It was the kind of call that only comes from knowing the region, and it kept the job on time and on budget before the cargo had even left Indian soil.

The Result

The cargo arrived safely, on schedule and within budget.

At ISL, project cargo and heavy lift movements are part of what we do every day. If you have a complex shipment that needs careful handling from origin to destination, we would love to hear from you.
